About Riverheights Football Academy

From Lockdown to League Champions: How Football Healed a Community

In 2020, Namibia’s first Covid-19 lockdown hit Goreangab one of Windhoek’s poorest area hard. Schools and sports were shut down, leaving children with little to do and nowhere to go. But amidst the hardship, a spark of hope was ignited by boys playing football by the river when they asked brothers Nixon Marcus and David Nakutwima to set up a football team for them. Their shared love for the game sparked a connection, and soon, weekend kickabouts blossomed into the Riverheights Football Academy.

This is more than just football. Riverheights is a beacon of hope, providing children with a safe space, mentorship, and the chance to dream big. Here, kids from all walks of life, some even sleeping in their kits, dream of scoring for their nation.

Namibia's history of colonialism and apartheid left deep scars, but Riverheights is rewriting the narrative.

The academy's founders fight for equality. They believe every child deserves access to education, sports, and cultural opportunities, regardless of their background.

Football became their tool. It unlocked potential, redefined talent, and nurtured dreams in a community scarred by underdevelopment.

Their motto? "Life is a team effort" and "Don't Stop Believing!" These philosophies resonate deeply within the academy and the Goreangab community. They've already proven their strength, winning consecutive youth league titles and overcoming personal challenges.

Their stories are testaments to their unwavering spirit, hope, the transformative power of sport and their fight for a better tomorrow. Join their journey and be inspired by how a community kicked past hardship to find victory.
